General Guidelines To Apply For A Nonimmigrant Visa

The U.S. Consulate General in Casablanca schedules visa appointments between 7:30 and 10:00 a.m. on every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, excluding US and Moroccan holidays

Approved visas are generally ready the following business day after 3 p.m. at the main reception window at the U.S. Consulate General. However, the U.S. Consulate General does not guarantee that approved visas will be ready at that time. There can be delays in issuances of visas and the Consulate strongly advises applicants to be prepared for possible delays.

Application Fees for Non-Immigrant Visas to Increase on January 1, 2008

Effective January 1, 2008, the application fee for a U.S. non-immigrant visa will increase from $100 to $131. This increase allows the Department to recover the costs of security and other enhancements to the non-immigrant visa process. More...

SECURITY NOTE:

For security reasons and to minimize waiting time, visa applicants should not bring cell phones and must not arrive more than 30 minutes prior to their appointment times.  Applicants must present their appointment letters in order to enter the Consulate and should bring only the documents necessary for their interview. Individuals with backpacks or large handbags will not be admitted. No liquids, including baby bottles, will be permitted into the Consulate.

The Electronic Visa Application Form (EVAF)

The U.S. Consulate General in Casablanca requires all applications for all categories of nonimmigrant visas be submitted using the Electronic Visa Application Form (EVAF).  This includes business, tourist, student, exchange visitor, temporary worker, press, official, and diplomatic visas.  The EVAF facilitates more accurate data entry and faster processing, thus applicants do not have to wait as long for interviews.

The visa application form and instructions are available in French, English and several others languages at http://evisaforms.state.gov/  There is no charge for filling out the EVAF online.

NOTE: Electronic Visa Application Forms with defective bar codes that are not machine-readable will not be accepted.

If an applicant receives assistance preparing an EVAF, the person providing assistance must also list his/her name and sign the application form.  Every applicant must sign his or her visa application and will be held responsible for the accuracy of the information listed on it.

NOTE: Parents must complete an EVAF and make an appointment for each child, whether the child is listed in the parent's passport or has an individual passport.

Making an Appointment

Appointments for business and tourist visa interviews are made through our online appointment system. When making an appointment, please make sure to keep the password you receive so you can change your appointment date, if necessary.

Nonimmigrant visa cases that do not require an appointment:

  • Student and exchange visitor visa applicants as well as beneficiaries of H, L, O and P petitions may apply Monday through Thursday between 7:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. and do not require an appointment. IMPORTANT NOTE for student applicants: You will not be admitted into the consular section for a visa interview unless you have payed the SEVIS I-901 fee. Payment can only be verified by a valid I-901 fee receipt. Students visa applicants should visit http://www.fmjfee.com and http://www.ice.gov/sevis for further information on payment. Students must also fill out additional form DS-158.
  • Holders of diplomatic and official passports who are traveling for tourism or studies or other non-official travel do not require an appointment.  They can apply on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • Royal Air Maroc employees who qualify under the RAM agreement and have the necessary documentation may apply between 8:00 am and 10:00 am Monday through Thursday.
  • Persons traveling to the United States for humanitarian reasons should send an email to nivcasablanca@state.gov to arrange for their appointment.

The EVAF must be completed beforehand for ALL visa and passport types.

All applicants for nonimmigrant visas in Morocco must pre-pay their visa application fee before appearing for a visa interview.  Applicants may pay the $131 non-refundable visa application fee at any branch of Banque Marocaine pour le Commerce et l’Industrie (BMCI) except the branches at Gauthier and Rue d’Alger in Casablanca.

The Day of the Interview

Applicants should arrive no earlier than 30 minutes before their appointment. Only the applicant will be allowed into the Consulate.

Each applicant needs to have their fingerprints taken prior and/or during their interview.

The Consulate General works hard to minimize the wait time for visa applicants, but all applicants should be aware that the entire process, from initial arrival to fingerprinting and the interview, may take up to 3 hours.

All nonimmigrant visa applicants must bring the following to the interview:

  •  A passport valid for at least six months beyond their intended date of travel with available visa pages.
  • A receipt for a non-refundable application fee in Moroccan Dirhams equivalent to $131 U.S. Dollars.
  • The Electronic Visa Application Form (EVAF), which must be filled out completely, with a full frontal view photograph against a white or off-white background stapled or glued to the visa application in the appropriate space.  The photograph must be taken in the last six months and must measure 50 mm x 50 mm with the head centered in the frame.
  • All male nonimmigrant visa applicants between the ages of 16 and 45 must also
fill out and submit form DS-157. It is recommended that all applicants complete this form and submit it with their application.
  • Student and exchange visitor visa applicants must also complete form DS-158.

NOTE: Please be prepared to show proof of your ties to Morocco, such as work documents, recent bank statements, a registration de commerce, and property ownership documents.  Minors may present their parents' information to show proof of ties.

Children under the age of 14, resident in Morocco, and planning to travel with their parents need not appear for a visa interview although consular officers reserve the right to request that the child appear for a subsequent interview.  However, parents must make an appointment for each child, even if the child is not required to appear in person whether the child is listed in the parent's passport or has an individual passport.

For further information on Consular Section procedures, please send an email to nivcasablanca@state.gov.
